Hello, bookworms!! I have SO MUCH to do! I’m going on vacation tomorrow and I’m traveling abroad with part of my family, so there’s lot of last minute things to take care.
I always feel like I’m forgetting things when I’m preparing to travel. Does that happen to you guys as well?
Today’s review is for a book I was REALLY excited about. I love R.S. Grey’s books and whenever I get an ARC from her I totally fangirl. I read it last week and couldn’t wait to talk more about it!
And the best thing is that now the book is already AVAILABLE!!!
Happy Release Day to R.S. Grey!!
I’ve spent eight years wishing I’d fall out of love with Derek Knightley. Blowing out birthday candles, chasing after shooting stars, making it rain spare change into mall fountains—every time it’s the same wish: forget about Derek.
But the day he walks back into my life, I realize there are two things time has yet to soften: my feelings for him and his chiseled jawline.
It’s infuriating that my heart still races when he walks into a room. I refuse to fall prey to old unrequited love, so I decide the less I’m around him, the better. Avoidance is key.
Unfortunately, Derek isn’t going to make it easy. As a teenager, I would have crawled on my hands and knees to attract his attention. Now I can’t seem to escape it.
I’m not sure why he’s bothering. He’s not just out of my league—he’s out of my tax bracket. As the sole heir to the Knightley Company, he’s as close to American royalty as you can get. As for me, I’m just a part-time princess at Knightley’s flagship magical theme park.
I spend my days playing make-believe, but Derek has no use for fairytales. His unwavering confidence makes it clear he thinks I’ll surrender in the end.
He’s just biding his time.
Making me sweat.
His Royal Highness always gets what he wants.
And he wants me.
***I received an ARC in exchange of an honest opinion***
“ I’m punched in the gut by the sight of a man I haven’t seen in eight years.
Our gazes catch and my knees give way. A second before I crumple, I catch myself against the elevator wall, just above the control panel.[…]’ ”
Whenever a new R.S. Grey ARC finds its way to my kindle I get incredibly excited! Cross that, I get excited whenever Rachel announces a new book is coming! I’m a huge fan and I don’t hide it.I don’t think my reading year is complete without at least a couple books from her.
I’ve been reading her books since she started and following her carreer has been so satisfying for me. Rachel ALWAYS delivers an enchanting book, with a different plotline and characters that captivate me.
In His Royal Highness we’re introduced to McKenna and Derek, our main characters. I love their interactions and the chemistry between those two. They have originally met 8 years previous to where the story starts and something happens and when they finally meet again the attraction between those two is undeniable.
R.S. Grey once more captivates the reader, not only with her main characters, but with supporting ones that will make your heart swoon. Like Cal, Derek’s grandfather, who is also a great friend for McKenna. He made me laugh at so many moments. He was a delight.
The story is nicely built and I like that it’s on the slow-burn spectrum of romance. It’s not too slow, but not too fast either. And it follows through with what it builds. There’s character development, specially on McKenna’s side, and I liked that a lot.
I would have liked a bit more into their romance. And maybe a conflict more or two, but that didn’t particularly bother me. The story feels very real and we can see Rachel put a lot of research and thoughts behind it. It was very relatable, and so were the characters. They could have been real people we meet on the streets. And that is something I really appreciated in this book.
The epilogue was something else. Very special and very sweet and I really liked it. I wish I could have seen the years pass because these characters, and this story, made me want to follow them forever.
In my opinion, this was another success for Rachel to count. His Royal Highness is a R.S. Grey book through and through. Her writing is addictive and now I’m already missing it and I need to know what she’ll come up next. Because her stories are always unique. Not only plot-wise, but because of her writing. And seeing Rachel’s writing evolve has been a real pleasure.
And now after reading this book I want to live happily ever after in one of her stories, because although they’re very real, they also make me believe everything will be alright in the world. And that is the power of a good read. It makes us forget our problems and focus on the story so much that it actually makes everything better. Even if it’s just for a couple hours (in my case, since I devour them). I do hope Rachel never ceases to write, because I honestly believe the world is a better place with her books in it.
